As an insurance agent in Washington state, we too have seen the percentage of drivers willing to accept the monitoring go up since March 2020.

Comment on Based on gas consumption, we’re nearly back to driving at pre-pandemic/recession levels by David https://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/based-on-gas-consumption-were-nearly-back-to-driving-at-pre-pandemic-recession-levels/comment-page-1/#comment-477344 Wed, 08 Jul 2020 22:01:56 +0000 https://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/?p=9760#comment-477344 You are not taking into account the fact that family vacations in RV’s are skyrocketing. This is due to people being afraid to use hotels during the pandemic. This also drastically increases gas consumption. (My truck gets about half the mpg when towing a trailer)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Therese.
There are Massachusetts government agencies that administer workers comp. Maybe they can help, they are listed here – https://www.mass.gov/service-details/workers-compensation

Comment on Emerging cyber terrorism threats and the Federal Terrorism Risk Insurance Act by Cygnet https://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/emerging-cyber-terrorism-threats-and-the-federal-terrorism-risk-insurance-act/comment-page-1/#comment-476423 Wed, 06 May 2020 12:37:46 +0000 http://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/?p=8442#comment-476423 An interesting article and challenge. However surely organisations should maintain some accountability for non cyber-events? While I support the coverage of such events in any insurance policy it surely must come with a standard to be met with regard IT protocol. All businesses and public bodies need to take the security and integrity of their IT systems with the utmost seriousness and allocate resources accordingly.

Comment on COVID-19: A Teachable MomentFor Thinking About Risk by Shawn Juris https://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/covid-19-a-teachable-momentfor-thinking-about-risk/comment-page-1/#comment-476154 Mon, 09 Mar 2020 15:36:58 +0000 https://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/?p=8699#comment-476154 The lack of context within newsrooms is spot on. The comparison of Coronavirus to the GHSA report on causes of pedestrian fatalities is a peculiar choice. The GHSA report is also media hype, particularly when it comes to their speculative causes. The number of cases is increasing but the reasons are not based on the data. Just as there are preventative measures to fend the risk of contracting the flu, there are similar risk management behaviors to improve your odds when it comes to pedestrian safety. First and foremost, don’t cross midblock at night on an artery road. Citing SUVs as a causal factor is inaccurate.
It would be interesting to see a deeper dive by III.org into the NHTSA reports and the spin that GHSA is selling. There is a story there.

Comment on Life & Death: Cyberattacks Interrupt More Than Business by Mitesh Patel https://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/life-death-cyberattacks-interrupt-more-than-business/comment-page-1/#comment-475576 Thu, 02 Jan 2020 06:47:01 +0000 http://www.iii.org/insuranceindustryblog/?p=8038#comment-475576 Very sobering. Unfortunately, organisations such a medical facilities are more likely to be targeted, as they are more likely to acquiesce to demands given the alternative consequences. This surely must be one service that requires the most cutting edge cyber security and a strict training and education regime. Something that will be problematic to deliver for public bodies.
